Travelling with medicines

If you enter Uzbekistan with medicines, whether prescription or non-prescription, you should check in advance the list of prohibited medicines and the legal quantities of medicines that are allowed to be imported. You can find information on the website of the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan here.

You should carry a doctor’s prescription if you intend to travel with prescription medicines and declare the items on your customs declaration form. Some non-prescription medicines in India cause problems on entry into Uzbekistan. Possession of these items can lead to administrative or criminal proceedings if you don’t have a prescription, or if you’re carrying more than you need for the visit and don’t declare them on arrival. Issues have most frequently been reported at land borders. One should declare the medicines at the entry itself.

Customs Declaration and Jewelry

You can travel with precious metals like gold and jewelry made of precious stones – up to 65 gr. For more information pls visit this page.

You should fill out two copies of the customs declaration form on arrival. Make sure that both copies are signed and stamped by Customs officials. You will need to present one to the customs authorities as you enter the country and produce the other on departure. Any currency or valuables found in your possession and not declared on your customs declaration form may be confiscated.

Drones

Unauthorized import and use of drones in Uzbekistan will attract fines, detention and confiscation of equipment. Licenses to import drones must be obtained prior to arrival. Anybody carrying Drone while travelling in the country are liable to be intercepted and subjected to legal actions as per local laws.

National Fertilizers Limited (NFL)

National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) is a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), a Nav-Ratna company under the Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. NFL has an annual Urea production capacity of 3.56 Million Tonnes and is the second largest producer of Urea in India. NFL is also engaged in production and marketing of Bio-Fertilizers, Compost and Allied Industrial Products like Ammonia, Nitric Acid, Ammonium Nitrate, etc.

The Government of India and the Indian Fertilizer Industry are coordinating to achieve the goal of improving soil fertility through balanced fertilizer usage and maintaining the ideal N, P, K ratio in soil. As an initiative to improve soil health, NFL has started marketing other fertilizers like DAP, MOP, APS & NPK. The NFL intends to import more fertilizers in the coming years.

Advisory for Indian Students – 18 June, 2025

Advisory for Indian Students

This is in continuation of advisory issued by the Embassy of India on June 1, 2025.

  • The Indian students desirous of studying medicine in Uzbekistan are again advised to check the credentials of their Education Consultants before engaging them. It is reiterated that the fee be paid directly to the University and the break-up of the cost be ascertained both from the University and the Education Consultant.
  • Complaints are being received that some Education Consultants are charging over and above the agreed charges, for accommodation, food, and other incidental expenditure.
  • Embassy is in direct touch with the authorities and universities in Uzbekistan, including:
    • Tashkent Medical Academy
    • Bukhara State Medical Institute
    • Samarkand State Medical University
    • Fergana Institute of Public Health
    • Termez Branch of Tashkent Medical Academy
    • Tashkent State Dental Institute
    • Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute
    • Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute
    • Karakalpakstan Medical Institute
    • Andijan State Medical Institute

  • Students may also note that the Government of Uzbekistan does not issue visa for the entire duration of the degree course. Visa is issued for one year at a time and subsequently renewed. The students are also required to register with the local authority every year and also every time upon change of their residence. The penalty for late registration can be exorbitant reaching up to USD 1000.
  • Students and their guardians are advised to ensure that they also check the credentials of the university before seeking admission including if they are compliant with National Medical Commission’s Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations.
