Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid a State Visit to Uzbekistan on 29–30 August 2026 at the invitation of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The visit marked a significant milestone in India–Uzbekistan relations, with the two leaders reaffirming their ties and elevating the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including political, economic, trade and investment, connectivity, defence and security, education, culture, tourism, healthcare, agriculture and people-to-people ties. Eleven Agreements/MoUs were exchanged in areas including cultural cooperation, conservation and restoration of Buddhist heritage sites, archives, Ayurveda, geology and mineral resources, tourism, higher education, environmental cooperation, diplomatic training, economic and financial dialogue, and cooperation between Samarkand and Gujarat. During the visit, President Mirziyoyev conferred upon Prime Minister Modi Uzbekistan’s highest state award for foreign leader, the Order of “Oliy Darajali Do‘stlik” . India also announced a USD 1 million grant for afforestation and ecological rehabilitation of the Aral Sea region, including necessary technical support, and 100 Lal Bahadur Shastri Scholarships for Hindi Language in Uzbekistan. The visit also saw cooperation in emerging areas such as critical minerals, digital technologies, innovation and sustainable development, while the two leaders reiterated their shared commitment to strengthening regional connectivity, peace, stability and mutually beneficial economic engagement. The visit reaffirmed the longstanding civilisational bonds between India and Uzbekistan.
